AGS Community Centre

AGS Community Centre is a space for children and community members in Sneung to share their concerns and learn together through supplementary classes.

Regretfully, following the Covid-19 Pandemic one of our main donars is no longer able to feasible support the centre resulting in the indefinite closure of the AGS Community Centre. We are currently looking for a new sponsor and hoping to find someone shortly.

AGS Community Centre

AGS Community Centre, was built in a small village called Sneung in Battambang Province was established in July 2017 with co-funded by Adventurous Global School – Charity in Hong Kong, Vision Du Monde in France, and Projectmac in Australia. The centre was first imagined by the people of Sneung Commune and came after their request for a school similar to the one they respected greatly – the PTD Learning Centre.

AGS Community Centre was officially opened in 14 July 2017 with more than 200 students enrolled. AGS Community Centre provides support for underprivileged children and youth.

Supplementary Classes

Public schools in Cambodia tend to have up to 35-50 students in each class, leaving little time for teachers to work with students who need extra help.

Our supplementary classes aim to ensure the slow learners or primary school students (grades 4-6) around AGS Community Center who are having difficulties are able to improve their learning abilities and move into the next education level. The classes are run 2 hours per day from Monday to Thursday and focus on Maths, Khmer, and life-skills. Our Khmer language classes have been very promising. Within a year, 94% of students in the Khmer language program are literate and able to progress at public school.

English Program

Our English Program is an accredited and registered school (AGS School) by the Battambang Department of Education, Youth and Sports. Each student receives a nationally recognized certificate each year. Our English lessons give students the skills to access a huge range of employment opportunities. English is not properly taught in the public school system. Innovative teachers and a child friendly school, combined with established curriculums, provide the perfect learning environment for our students to thrive.

One hour session a day is provided to our students who are between 6-15 years-old. The course builds their skills, self-worth, confidence, and most importantly, hope for a brighter future. The course replaces the time they would otherwise be required to engage in child labor without learning and organized play.

Empower Youth Through Computer Skills Training

IT proficiency is an absolute requirement for success in today’s technology-driven environment. However, many youths do not have access to a computer and are 100% computer illiterate. This project helps to change this by providing basic computer training to children and youths in Sneung. Knowing how to properly use a computer and navigate the digital terrain will help youths to keep life organized. This essential training is in great demand, providing a much-needed foundation and equipping them for future success.

Hundreds of youths and young adults in Sneung have never used a computer. Computer training is typically available at commercial institutions or schools, at a price that is beyond their financial means. They do not have free access to computers or computer training. Through our training, youths become better qualified and are able to obtain jobs that they were previously unqualified for. This project helps bridge the Digital Divide and levels the playing field.

This project provides a learning environment with access to computer equipment, office applications, and the internet. Young adults gain the needed computer skills to secure better jobs. This training is in high demand and very relevant. Project also covers the cost of specialized or advanced computer training at other institutions. They progress in their careers and rise above poverty while contributing to national development.
